Companionship
Social isolation can be a difficult aspect of staying at home. Companions help relieve loneliness by providing social contact through visits and phone calls. Sometimes, the presence of another person is just what someone needs to feel comfortable. A companion engages a person in social interaction, such as conversation, reading, and playing games.
Companions also provide some relief to family caregivers from the stress of caring for a loved one. Professional companions are often hired through home health agencies. In addition, many organizations provide volunteer companions.
