LightBridge is a provider of learning resources based on cutting edge Alzheimer?s research custom designed for the at-home caregiver. Complementing the research-based educational programs on the CD-Rom is LightBridge?s content-rich website. Research updates, articles and links to the most current information on Alzheimer care are also available (www.LightBridgeHealthcare.com).

Light Bridge has created educational CDs to empower at-home caregivers with a greater understanding of Alzheimer?s disease and the changes expected with varying stages. Two CDs, which can be played on PC computers, are currently available:

  1. Overview of Alzheimer?s Disease, which provides in depth information about the disease and the changes expected with varying stages.
  2. Managing the Difficulties of Mealtime, which provides practical caregiving strategies developed by leading Alzheimer?s researchers and practitioners.

Work with the Alzheimer?s Association

On November 1, 2007, LightBridge Healthcare Research, Inc. and the national Alzheimer?s Association entered into a strategic alliance to further their shared mission of providing educational resources to families caring for a person with Alzheimer?s disease. LightBridge Healthcare Research will donate 15% of net sales of Overview of Alzheimer?s and Managing the Difficulties of Mealtime to the national Alzheimer?s Association to help further its important mission.

Products developed by Leading Alzheimer?s Researchers

LightBridge collaborates with leading academic researchers, clinical practitioners and national Universities including University of Maryland, University of Texas, University of Iowa, Duke University School of Nursing and the University of New Mexico to translate the most current research into practical strategies that assist family caregivers to better understand the complications, challenges, and resulting stresses associated with caring for loved ones afflicted with Alzheimer?s disease.

LightBridge products are created in both Spanish and English and include other features such as user-friendly navigation, interactive learning methods, encyclopedia-like glossary, frequently asked questions, search capabilities and so much more.

OVERVIEW OF ALZHEIMER?S DISEASE

This 30 minute, self-paced CD-ROM empowers at-home caregivers with a greater understanding of Alzheimer's disease. It provides the viewer with a comprehensive understanding of the changes expected with the varying stages of the disease and provides care strategies that are based in research and experience.

MANAGING THE DIFFICULTIES OF MEALTIME

This 50 minute CD-ROM discusses the many of the issues surrounding mealtime and nutrition. From wandering and pacing to dehydration and constipation, education is provided that gives the viewer an awareness of how the disease affects a person with Alzheimer?s disease, as well as solutions on how to improve the difficult situations a caregiver may encounter.

  • Cognitive changes
  • Aggression, depression and apathy
  • Social and environmental factors
  • Caregiver Perspectives. Real caregivers are interviewed about their experiences and provide strategies and tips to other caregivers about common mealtime problems.
  • Study videos are used to demonstrate common mealtime concerns.Questions are posed concerning scenes depicting common issues and problems. Viewers are then prompted to select appropriate responses. In depth discussion follows on each of the possible choices.
