You Searched for: Quality Improvement Organizations

Definition

Under the direction of CMS, the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) Program works with consumers and physicians, hospitals, and other caregivers to make sure patients get the right care at the right time, particularly patients from underserved populations. The QIOs in each state ensure that payment is made only for medically necessary services, and investigate beneficiary complaints about quality of care.
